Modern Barcelona was born in the Eixample district. Few districts have as much symbolism as that of Gràcia. The old area of the district still extremely important, is very proud of its past as an independant municipal area. In fact it was named Village of Gracia. Gracia has many small roads and plazas full of character. In the north you can find the area of Vallcarca, also the area of el Coll separates off from Vallcarca. The other areas of the district are Camp d'en Grassot-Gràcia Nova, a newer area. The area limits have spread out to Travessera de Dalt, where a large buliding project is happening to improve communication and reduce traffic.

Perhaps Gracia is most famous for its fiestas which start on August 15th every year. Both the young and old join together to celebrate the fiestas of their beloved district. Many days are spend decorating the streets and the different streets compete against each other for the best decoration. Calle Verdi is one of the most famous streets and it has won the competition many times.

Gracia is considered the most arty and trendy of all the districts. Home to many artists and young people it has a vibrant but safe feel about it. It is also home to many cinemas, theatres and bars.Because of its many plazas and pedestrianized streets there is alot of atmosphere that is hard to find in other areas.
